A Little Perk Up

Okay, this one is just too much fun. It struck me the other day that the "love you a late" stamp from Pun Fun is a perfect fit with all the tea/coffee stamps in Morning Cup. And since Pun Fun won't be around much longer, I just had to pair them up while I had the chance! This is a peek through card, so the cup & it's sentiment are stamped on the inside of the card. Then I punched through the layers of the card front to reveal just the cup & added a sentiment from Morning Cup. For the background, I just inked up a Texturz Plate before running it through the Big Shot. This plate is another of my retiring toys. I'll miss them! It took me so long to find my favorite way to use them, but once I started inking them up I thought they were great! I think we'll have great fun making this one in Sunday's class. There's still room if you want to join in the fun!

Rocketship Mojo/ Mojo Monday 173

Another one of those "it looks more fun in person" cards. :) I know that the stars on the card could have been any shape, but I don't use my Stars die nearly often enough. So, I took out my Heat & Stick powder and glittered some up. My little rocket (from Pun Fun) is embossed using Glassy Glaze to give it a sheen that is sort of lost in this photo. Sorry! I made up a whole list of things I want to try while substituting a free draw day in art class. Today I checked one off by utilizing one of the tags from my Matchbox die. There three fun shapes that I never use unless I'm making a box. I think it's just because I don't think of them and they are on such a large die. As if running a big die through the machine is any more difficult than a small one! Sometimes I'm just plain silly.

Happy Birthday Jeff! / Mojo Monday 171

It's my husband's birthday (we'll leave out numbers for his sake) and so I decided to make my Mojo Monday card for him. There are few things he enjoys more than a good pun. The Pun Fun set was therefore the natural choice. The folks over at Mojo Monday have their monthly "round or square" challenge this week and I picked the square version of this great sketch. If you haven't done one of their sketches before I recommend you pop over there and give it a try. Even if you don't have a way to post it, trying a sketch challenge is a great way to get the stampin' juices flowing! The designer paper for this card is part of the hostess In Color pack. Great fun, huh? Now that I *gasp* own all of the stamp sets for level one, I am collecting some of this great designer paper for us to use in classes. I know some folks would keep this little bird for kid-only cards, but I think that he's great for kids at heart too! Jeff definitely qualifies on that one. Happy Monday!

Fox and Friends Get Whale Soon

It's time for another PPC color challenge! This time around, the colors were: Pacific Point, Whisper White, and Poppy Parade. That shouted nautical to me, so I decided to make my first card with the little whale from Fox and Friends. Of course, I've used the sentiment from Pun Fun a few times with other whales (Pun Fun and Animal Stories both have great whales too). It's kind of amazing that I can come up with three spouting whales from my collection & none of them are from an ocean themed set. Who knew? I do love this little guy though. I may experiment with giving him a google eye, but for the first time through I thought I would leave him as is.

Rocket & Stars

Little boy cards are sometimes a challenge for me, but it's probably just because I don't have a lot of stamps that lend themselves well to these projects. That was one of the reasons I decided I really needed the star punch. It could be used for cards like these, but for others as well. I'm all about versatility. Then, I realized that it actually made much more sense to get the Stars Big Shot Die. It was about the same price, but instead of just one star now I can make four different sizes! Talk about versatile.
I wanted to play around with my stars, so I coated three of them in Versamark and embossed them in either Iridescent Ice or Gold. I also played around with my Versamarker so I could add little bits of gold embossing to my rocket. All the little dots & the port hole are embossed (sort of hard to tell in the photo, sorry!).
Perhaps next time I'll give my rocket some sort of night sky to fly though. Today, Tangerine Tango seemed so perky & like a good fit with my stars.

Stinky Greetings

My execution on this one was imperfect to say the least, but I still think it's cute. :) How can you not smile at this little stinker. I suppose he should be named after the legendary Charmin (as in don't squeeze the...) but that is a story for another time.

Next time I will employ my Stamp-a-ma-jig so I can create a more uniform line of flowers, but I wasn't sure if I really wanted that kind of consistency today. Now I am more sure though. All part of the process, right?

It's great to have a scallop circle that fits my larger images so nicely. This punch is an XL Scallop Circle & will be available in just a few days with the release of the new catalog. I hope you're as excited about all these new toys as I am!

Get Whale Soon Take Two

Ever since I made my first Get Whale Soon card with the hair gel water, I've had requests that it appear in classes. Truth be told, I didn't have enough of the goodies (particularly the designer paper) to go around. So, I've been trying to come up with an alternative. Here he is! Of course, this one needed google eyes in addition to the water effect. Look forward to seeing him in May classes. I think he'll be a hit!

Bird Day Color Challenge

I decided to not wait until the end of the week for my PPC Color Challenge this time around (#7). The colors for this week are: Tempting Turquoise, Chocolate Chip, & Very Vanilla. Thankfully, they will all still be around after the Color Renovation that Stampin' Up announced yesterday. I will be featuring some of the colors that will retire at the end of June in the coming weeks, so you'll have plenty of warning about any old friends that will be no longer available.

I need to send out a thanks to the Mojo Monday ladies for this card too. I knew what I wanted my focal image to be (even the shape), but I was having trouble coming up with a new & fun layout. So, I took a look through their archives & came up with this sketch (give or take). What a wonderful resource!
